Women's Ministry
The Organization
United Methodist Women or UMW is a membership and faith-based organization for women with approximately 800,000 members worldwide whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice.
Our Purpose
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Missions
Through our pledges and other designated giving, we participate in global missions.
In addition we support local missions through our fundraising initiatives, such as a November Auction and a yard sale every other year.
Meetings
Our meetings are held from September through May:
General Luncheon Meeting: Every 2nd Tuesday at 11:45 in the Fellowship Hall
(The exception is in December when we meet with the PUMM in the evening.)
Circles which are smaller group meetings:
Circles 1-5: every 3rd Tuesday at 10:00 am in member’s homes
Circle 6: every 3rd Tuesday at 10:00 in the church parlor.
Circle 7: every 3rd Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the church parlor.
Circle 8: every 4th Tuesday at 7 p.m. in member’s homes.
Circle 9: has two meeting times from which to choose:
every 2nd Tuesday at 7 p.m. in parlor or homes or
the 2nd Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in parlor or homes.
Outreach
UMW begins with the local unit with the luncheon and circle meetings.
The local unit is a member of the District UMW which consists of units from churches within the Thomasville District.
The Thomasville District UMW is part of the South Georgia Conference UMW.
The South Georgia Conference UMW is part of the Jurisdiction which includes units in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
